If you're planning a Spring Break trip, thinking ahead to your summer reading list, or looking for ideas for your book club, Brooklyn Public Library has some great suggestions. Many public libraries offer book suggestions online, but I was totally impressed recently with the themed book lists available at the BPL website.
Not only are there plenty of categories to help you stay informed about new books you would be most interested in, but each list offers an email subscription so you can get recomendations by email every month. You can choose from lists based upon age group, book type, and topical themes. The New York Times Bestseller, Oprah's Book Club, and award winner lists are also available for your perusal.
In addition, there is another email subscription service called Books in Your Email which allows you to read 2-3 chapters of a new book each week via email. This service is also offered in a variety of themed categories so you can sample only the types of books you are most interested in.
Is your local library doing something innovative for its patrons? Tell me!
